美國SUMIKO 唱頭曆史悠久, 深受發燒友推崇.  最新Songbird是中價位唱頭, 看外型已十分有睇頭, 屬貴價頭的設計.  這種高精度CNC切割是萬萬聲唱頭才會出型(成本所限), 但優點在於諧振低,  在訊號傳輸時會達到更純淨,更多細節, 音染低的效果.  另一方面, 開放式唱頭手工及QC都須更多工序, 挑剔揀選才能出廠.  所以Songbird單看這幾點已很抵買.

聲音方面, SUMIKO 一向走溫暖, 但又不失分析力的方向.  Songbird 貫徹了傳統之外, 還多了一份傳神.  怎麼'傳神'?  應說是投入感, 總之你就是好想繼續聽下去, 以往一些不聽的歌/段落都變得特別好聽.  相信 近年SUMIKO 設計師下了不少苦工才能有這成就.

試音揀了 '黑教堂' '細川綾子 Mr. Wonderful' 及 Clearaudio Bestseller Classic No.1'.  都能容易聽又考機的唱片.  首先, '黑教堂'播Cantate Domino, 一開始管風琴已有攝人的氣勢, 亦沒有繃䋈或力有不逮的感覺, 非常流暢, 舒服.  再聽Julsang,  女高音自然伸展到很高音域, 一氣呵成, 好正!  隨後播 '細川綾子 Mr. Wonderful' 的Misty.  細川像講故事一樣唱給我們聽 How hopelessly I am loss  That's why I am following you.  好無奈嘅感覺表露無遺, 另外驚訝係, 在聽這唱頭時自然感覺到細川較年輕時的聲底, 好特別, 也是我們用'傳神'來形容的原因.  最後試'Clearaudio Bestseller Classic No.1'  Alla turca 及 for Elise,  鋼琴背景很靜, 強調出彈奏時的技巧, 按鍵時的大細力, 琴聲很流暢.  大家都聽得十分投入, 讚不絕口.  

可以說, 以這價位SUMIKO Songbird 能做到這樣表現, 真的超值!

The high output 2.5 mV MC Songbird is Sumiko's new entry point to their Reference cartridge line. The Songbird is equipped with a coated Al pipe cantilever, 0.3 x 0.7 micron ellptical stylus and tracks around 2 +/- 0.2 g.

The Songbird goes naked in a similar vein as its upper-tier open-architecture siblings. This makes sense on sonic grounds because cartridge bodies are effectively resonance traps – although it has its drawbacks too. First, it leaves the 'motor' exposed to dust, and second, a naked cartridge is even more vulnerable to accidental damage, especially while you're fitting and/or aligning it. This cartridge is effectively a thick, beautifully CNC-machined top plate with the motor and cantilever/stylus assembly attached. This largely explains why the Songbird weighs just 8.5g
