How much is your Japan version of Raspberry Pi 3B? I purchased it via web from RS Hong under HK$300 and the red & white plastic box HK6x makind a total under HK$370. I am interested in the metal box you bought from Japan. It should have better perfomance in terms of sonic quality. What are you going to do with it? As a headless music player?

It's much expensive compared to the British version which only costed me HK$279. But I'm not sure whether the Japanes version is better or not.

The sonic quality is not bad at all. It's convenient , easy and simple for music replay. No any support software is necessary not like pc must have to install software as foobar, HQPlayer to play music files....Once the music player like Volumio or RuneAudio is installed onto the micro sd card to be inserted to the Raspberry Pi, you can play music freely with your Apple iPhone or Android phone as the remote control to select songs and play.

As such, you couldn't use WiFi to connect your smartphone as remote control when playing music unless to add a wireless adaptor to have the job done.

The pi 3 can be connected to the router via lan cable, and so the smart phone can still serve as remote control of the pi3 with runeaudio installed.

Yes, you have to connect a LAN cable in operation. I have tried both the Volumio and the RuneAudio apps. I think the RuneAudio is better in operation and sonic performance as well.

I use wired connection for my Pi2. Last night spent a hour setting up my Picoreplayer. The fun part was to use my son's Lego to make a case for it. Now I am trying to set it up to stream DSD files.... but no clue....

Good idea for creation. I heard that the micro sd card size for installing music player for Raspberry Pi or other Linux based device need not be too large because the booting time would be much longer with a large sized sd card say 32G. In addition to the booting time, it also would prolong the searching file time when playing music. In order to have a smooth operation on playing music with Raspberry, a 4G micro sd card is more than enough to achieve the goal. What do you think about this? I would like to have your comments. Thanks

I am new on Pi but happened to have a 4GB so I just use it. Boot time is fast. I will try various players. Ultimate goal is to set up a LMS + HQplayer, not sure if this is feasible. I have installed Picoreplayer for now and burning in the Pi and hopefully the sound gets better. BTW, do you have experienced on Picoreplayer or other Pi players for DSD play back to a (DoP) DAC like Holo Spring? Do you know what should I put for the delay in "Device supports DoP"? I am lost in the jungle.....

I am now just using Holo Spring DAC for listening music. As the Raspberry is direct play for any format of music using RuneAudio or Volumio without any plugin necseeary, you just have to click 'enabled' in DSD support for RuneAudio to play DSD files including dsd64, dsd128, dsd256 and dsd 512 if your dac in use supports.

I am also using Holo Spring. My PiCoreplay sounds awful comparing to direct coaxial connection between Oppo UDP-203 to Holo Spring. I think it's the noise of USB output. I will experience both RuneAudio and Volumio, but which one do you think having better sound quality and better user interface on iPad?

I read somewhere that using a USB flash drive would have faster boot time than SD. Not sure if that is true or not.
