[解碼器] Chord Hugo TT - the desktop version of Hugo

Chord Hugo TT
  • TT is for TableTops.
  • USB are Type B socketry more common on ‘audiophile’-grade USB cables. The original Hugo is with micro-USB inputs only.


But there’s more.
Chord Hugo TT is not just the desktop version of Hugo!

  • A new microprocessor is added to allow a miniature display and use IR and have remote control.
  • Hugo TT measures 10 x 10 inches, significantly larger than Hugo is to do with the bend radius of the cables inside, so to use good quality internal cables.
  • The battery has been doubled in size.
  • There is 10,000,000 uF of Supercapacitors used in the same way that racing cars use them: they give the batteries more time to ramp up their chemical action, extending battery life as well as improving dynamics and a providing a faster response to music transients.


MSRP is £2950.

There is no F1 car using supercapacitor but a Le Mans racing Toyota does use this technology.  Chord should do more research before writing up the spec.

A suicide price.

Technically the same dac technology, (until no further info, i assume the main dac tech is the same) merely a larger case and better connectivity, the price jump makes the Hugo TT totally unattractive

good to know a destop version of Hugo is coming! I think performance will tell whether it is worth 2x price more than the original?! Moreover sound could varies differently even with the same technology or components inside, but having different chassis.

Chord will need to provide further explanation than that but I think the terms "same circuit", or "same electronics" (and whatever other terms used) needs a little more clarification. A DAC/Amp that uses the same DAC chips or same OpAmps in the same design could start to sound rather different depending on the power/transformer behind it. We've already been told of at least one difference with the inclusion of super-capacitors so the Hugo TT is already not exactly the same internals simply encased in a larger shell. Now whether these "upgrades" are worth double the price, that's yet to be heard.

I think the initial announcement of the Hugo TT having "the same <whatever>" is somewhat used a little too loosely. Don't need to be so asphyxiated onto the phrase there.

Hugo does not use the off-self dac chip. It uses the FPGA designs instead.

As a Chord fans for a couple of years and a hugo user for a few months (now sold), i must say i am biasd to Chord.

I dont mean to criticize the TT,   but if Chord only use the same content of hugo with a new battery and case, then charge double, i will be very disappointed.  In fact i expect the analogue part to be a highlight in the new model, as a norma home use model, it should have a much better analogue output stage than the hugo.

The final result/actual performance is another story, i agree.Lets wait and see :)

咁啱有留意開賽車,所以知道小小。其實系英國,相信賽車工業比音响工業要大得多。

10,000,000 uF = 10F
10F 叫 supercapacitor? 要睇埋耐壓.

Q = C V

Q is the charge on the plate with the "+" on the voltage polarity definition.
V is the voltage across the plates.
C is a constant - the capacitance of the capacitor.

Not really, even 5V withstand voltage, old type capacitor with 100,000uF will have size close to coke can....

10F is really super capacitor grade...

The ifi has a warmer and more organic sound. In terms of hifi factor, it is an obvious downgrade, but i am not missing the hugo.

Just googled a 5.5V 100,000 uF (0.1F) cap:

According to Wikipedia:

A supercapacitor (SC), sometimes ultracapacitor, formerly electric double-layer capacitor (EDLC)) is a high-capacity electrochemical capacitor with capacitance values up to 10,000 farads at 1.2 volt that bridge the gap between electrolytic capacitors and rechargeable batteries. They typically store 10 to 100 times more energy per unit volume or mass than electrolytic capacitors, can accept and deliver charge much faster than batteries, and tolerate many more charge and discharge cycles than rechargeable batteries. They are however 10 times larger than conventional batteries for a given charge.

I think you also know about electronic much...

But I have to say, to achieve 10F capacity with 5V (or above withstand voltage), either you give a big box of traditional capacitor or using 2 to 3 units of double dielectric grade capacitor (aka super cap...) in series....
