I have not used CAS before. But use Linn DS only for playing ripped CD or High Resolution Audio Files.

I have compared the following:

(1) Red Book CD played by Mark Levinson No.31.5 (Reference Transport) + No.30.6 (Reference Processor)

(2) Ripped CD played by Linn Majik DS and Digital Output to Mark Levinson No.30.6

(3) Ripped CD played by Linn Klimax DS





I can say the difference is small for all the above when play CD (16bit/44.1kHz)

When playing audio files of 24/96, both (2) and (3) wins the equivalent CD title.

Hence, at last, I decided to give up CD Player and sold my beloved Mark Levinson No.31.5 + No.30.6.

I just retain the Linn Klimax DS as the only musical source.

I believe playing Audio Files with Digital Streaming will take over those with CD Players eventually.

It is true that Linn Akurate DS / Linn Klimax DS already wins the famous Linn CD12 so Linn stop producing CD player.

Therefore, the final 2 streams will be either LP or DS/CAS.

In fact, they are equivalent in current 2nd hand price:

(1) Mark Levinson No.31.5 (CDT) + No.30.6 (DAC) --> 2nd Hand Price = HK$100K

(2) Linn Majik DS (Digital Out) + Mark Levinson No.30.6 --> 2nd Hand Price = HK$80K

(3) Linn Klimax DS --> 2nd Hand Price = HK$90K

Therefore, they are in similar range of price so I am comparing apple to apple.

From my personal opinion, if you are willing to invest in Digital Streaming, go for the higher grade and you will not regret to own the system.

If for low class CAS or Digital Streaming machine, proper good quality CDP will win when playing normal CD / ripped CD.

But for playing High Resolution Audio Files, Digital Streaming with good quality DAC will likely to win if the jitter errors are catered for.
