Dear friends,
It seems there are some customers dont know how to recovery S2/S5 with burning fw forcely by HDD. here is an instruction.
Introducement of S2：
S2 GUI
S2 firmware is stored in the flash chip on mainboard, as below picture.
The method of burning-in S2 firmware forcedly, as described, use for recovering only when S2 firmware is destroyed or lost(the machine cannot load to home interface).
General steps：
Step 1, organize a HDD with necessary files
Step 2, connect this HDD with S2, burn the firmware in the HDD into S2 forcedly
Step 3, activate the burnt-in firmware
Please read this instruction carefully and proceed step by step, otherwise the work cann't be done successfully. Especially the software tool of DiskImg, even a little false operation will result in that pc HDD data lost, therefore please use a unimportant PC to proceed.
Instruction in detail step：
Step 1, organize a HDD with necessary files
1．A computer, tools and software as below:
a）. Seagate HDD (80G~2TB are ok, other brands are also ok, please noted that this HDD will be formatted and written in new data during the operation)
b）. DiskImg software
It is a tool software, can write a image file into HDD, and build a new HDD with complete same date as image files. Please download this software tool from below link:

c）. SMP8643-0406.img
It is the image file of S2 firmware, please download from below link:

2．Connect HDD with PC( attach HDD to PC SATA port, or put HDD in a harddisk enclosure and then attach to PC USB port)
3．Run DiskImg tool software, click "Write Image" option as below showing
In the column of "Write Image to", please select the install hard disk.( for example: here is Drive H) ;
On the option of "Source File", please click "Browse"and then select SMP8643-0406.img ;
and then click "Start" to begin......
The following is yes/no box appears(as above picture), choose "Yes" to confirm, DiskImg begin to write "SMP8643-0406.img” into harddisk.
4．Please wait till the harddisk is written successfully, so that the hard disk is organized.
Step 2, connect this organized HDD to S2, burn the HDD firmware into S2.
1．First, take apart the complete S2, in order to go on next steps, please proceed as following:
2．Detach the organized HDD from PC, and find SATA cable in the S2 accessary box.
3．With this SATA cable, connect HDD to S2 SATA port on the back (PS: in order to fix successfully, it is certainly need to connect HDD and S2 on the back SATA port; if insert HDD to the built-in rack of S2, the work will be wrong and fail)
4.Connect power cable to S2, connect TV and S2 by HDMI cable or AV cable or YpbPr cable.
5．Find the flash chip of storing firmware, with tweezer to short circuit number 17th and 18th pin on the flash chip, keep pressing and don't loosen, as below picture.
6．Power on S2, in about 5 seconds, loosen the tweezer(i.e. cut no. 17th and no. 18th pin on flash chip), S2 will begin recovery program automatically. This moment, TV screen is black, show no information, actually the machine is recovering...no worries and doubt , wait patiently please...
The above step5 and step6, tweezer short circuit no. 17th and 18th pin of flash chip, it is really dangerous, please don't touch other mainboard part, otherwise it is possible to burn and destroy the other component on mainboard. It suggests that common user not to adopt this instruction unless there is no good method. If you are veteran, it is OK.
7．For about 3~5 minute，the recovery finish, S2 will auto-reboot, you will see the S2 starting screen, this means the work complete successfully.
If screen keep black over 5 minutes and without rebooting, pls turn off by manual and power on again, if there has no boot image still, it means burning failed, there must be some wrong operation, pls recover your player according to the method from start...
Step 3, activate new burnt-in firmware of S2
1.After recovery, AVI/DIVX files can be playback except BD files; and there is a green square in the right down corner of screen during playing, as below, that is because of the new firmware haven't been activated.
To activate S2 new firmware, use remote to access to menu Setup -- Information
Copy “Serial number” and send it to this email address([email protected]) to get the license file (4ths_license_xxxxxx.dlf), xxxxxx is corresponding with your player Serial number.
For example,
a. copy this S/N ,and send to [email protected], you will obtain this file-4ths_license_9125a76d4d98633140277e2869967f0c.dlf
b. Another method to obtain “ths_license_xxxxxx.dlf”: pls access website http://www.bd-mod.com/, input your Serial number and submit to get this license file.
Pls copy this license file(4ths_license_xxxxxx.dlf) to USB flash root directory, plug into any S2 USB port, when the player recognize USB flash, pls select this license file, press “ok” key to run the license file, the work will be done right away.
Thus you can use your S2 freely now! BD files can be playback too. |
