I agree . Setting up of CAS system is not difficult.
But ripping all CDs into the hard disc is very troublesome!

Dr. chung,

It is actually fun rather than trouble.  You may as well starting from those CDs which are more frequently played and so on, but to remind you,  there is probably a copyright issue by so doing.

there couldn't be any copyright issue if the ripped files are for own use, only distribution to others may risk breaching the law

purchase music by way of download is a trend now, so CAS is definitely the way to go.

The copyright owner may claim you for reproducing the product without authority. There is normally a copyright warning statement printed on the CD/CD package.  It is just like you use pirated software for own non-commercial use.

Storage for large uncompressed audio files is also a big challenge. We need to upgrade the HD from time to time when the music library is building up.

say you buy a book and hand copy a page as your own notes, is this infringement of copyright? ripping CD for own use is so popular, how many people get into trouble of civil or criminal litigation?

The copyright issue may be an academic issue rather than real life concern....

There should be no problem if one has got the consent of the copyright owner for making a copy of the product for storage purpose.

for copying a book, I understand that there is a limitation as to the percentage of the book copied, beyond that point the copyright is infringed.
