I'm using AnyDVD HD and just bought my first BD writter for my computer. I was asked to set the region the first time when playing BD movie with PowerDVD. Is that necessary?
Is it a must that I've to set the region code for a new BD writter? I've already set to remove region code when I backup my BD.
If you use AnyDVD HD to rip BD or DVD into say ISO, the region code is removed, so it doesn't matter which region you set for your PowerDVD player, unless of course you play the original optical disc in the BD drive.

PowerDVD still asked to select region code (said it must select region code the first time to play Blu-ray no matter it's the original disc or backup file) even after I play my backup BD files that had already removed region code......
So is it a must to select region code for a new BD writter?
Sorry I don't use HTPC so didn't think of that, in that case you have to decide which Region is more 'advantageous' since I think you can only change it like 5 times or so. Region A should be most universal for us since it includes US and Japan, but that's your call, unless there is a way to hack it. What about XMDB? Many people uses that for BD playback on HTPC. I don't recall it asking me to choose region code, but I don't really use it so can't be sure.
