Using SSD in MacMini for CAS

Hi all, had a 2010 Mac Mini and currently using it primarily for CAS.  The warranty has expired already and seeing that the current price drop in SSD, I am thinking to replace the original HDD.  Any C Hings can comment how is the effect of changing SSD as the medium and will there be a huge benefit in the sonic performance?

有D播放器已load晒成首歌落RAM先播, 所以從這方面睇好似應該無乜理由大幅改善音效!

但HDD有摩打, 會唔會影響音效呢(干擾), 我就唔知了

I am using Pure Music so basically it is having Memory Play but wondering if the vibrations of the HDD will have any effect.

Also, I was told that Plextor is the number 1 for SSD now and Samsung came as 2nd while no one is using Intel anymore, any input on that?

我唔係用MAC , 我用PC !!!

FOOBAR2000 當我個BUFFER LENGHT SET 到最細, 50ms 如果用HDD 會出現間中窒一下既情況, 如果SSD 就無 !!! 當然你可以SET 個 BUFFER 30000 ms 都得, 問題係落得太多 BUFFER 係唔會好聲.... 越少BUFFER 聽出來更清, 更爽, 音場更闊, 數碼聲會越少 !!!

D/A 當中既過程, I/O 既影響, 唔係一定落RAM 就好聲
(好簡單一個eg. 最舊CD WALKMAN 係無防震, D聲靚好多, 到後期出晒D防震機... 真係無一隻覺得好聲)

Definitely agree, I use self compiled Linux with MOC, reaching a buffer of 3ms, quite better sounding that the stock Ubuntu where buffer was more than 20ms.

SSD does not require power to operate. In theory, it reduces EFI and EMI, the sound is possibly cleaner. Though i do not have a direct AB comparison.

In any case, an upgrade with SSD will improve your computer performance drastically. Beware that the macmini hard drive replacement is much more involving than a macbook. You should also get an SSD drive with a chipset that is more compatible with the Mac OS.

I suggest SSD in an external case connecting to Mac using Optocoupler (usb<>optical) with the case using hi-fi grade external power supply

自己換drive? 換完之後又要安裝過所有software, 難度都幾高呀!

我自己用macbook air 256g ssd + Audirvana Plus. 效果比 iTunes 好好多, highly recommended.

師兄,小弟攞出去買鋪頭攪(人工$600).....Audirvana Plus已使用中....多謝推薦....btw,借問用那台DAC?

我用goldmund metis dac， 很滿意，音色圓滑。

Beware of ocz and ensure you back up from time to time, their failure rate is quite high.  i am planning to get a samsung.

CHing, thanks for remind. I used to copy file from NAS to Mini and play. BTW, OCZ Vector provided 5years warranty.
