After a week of careful research, gave up the BHA-1 and ordered another balanced headamp - the HeadAmp GS-X mk2, but will need to wait 3 months. This is my second Class-A headamp and my desk is gonna get pretty hot.
Indeed, so my primary use will still be an headamp, and the pre-amp function would only be considered as a convenience feature, just in case I need another pre-amp one day.

cwtim01, this is also what I'm thinking.
However I find your headamp way too expensive and I cannot afford it. Bryston BHA is more practical and good value for the money. Already spent too much on my headphone la. aiii.....

BHA-1 is good if the majority of headphones you have are all balanced. Comments from head-fi is that balanced output of BHA-1 is good, but the single ended output is so-so.
Since most of my headphones are still single ended and I'm not going to recable them all, I went for other options.
