After I upgraded my pre-amplifier to ModWright LS36.5DM in late August 2012, I had been looking for an upgrade of my DAC system. I did a lot of research from web browsing then I did have a lot of audition of the following DACs, such as Weiss Medea+, MSB Platinum DAC IV, Jeff Rowland Aeris and M2teach Vaughan which I have the most interest with it’s battery power to operate the system because I have experience from my auditioning HiFi history that the power supply influences the sound quality. So finally I made up my decision in late January 2013 to order a set of Vaughan but I needed to wait till March to get this DAC. When I placed an order, the salesman checked should be deliver before Chinese New Year so I expected to have new toy playing during the holidays but unfortunately when I chased the DAC and the salesman told me that since the demand of this DAC in Europe was huge so the DAC will be delayed to deliver after Chinese New Year Holidays. I have no choice to accept this. After the holidays, I called several times to the salesman and he was always saying that the DAC would be arrived end of this week so it would be sent to you early next week. Of course it was continuously failed until I got this on March 2.
When I hooked up the DAC to my system, I heard a noise something like when you play a Vinyl record with dirt in the record groove. I called the salesman and also wrote a letter to factory in Italy by email and telling them what I had a problem in noise. I got a reply from a Technician after couple of hours which I was greatly appreciated of their service, they suspected that the problem of noise was coming from digital data transmission lost with my RCA digital cable(TaraLabs Decade) connection from AA Drive 1 to Vaughan but at that time all I had only the RCA digital cable so I went to find an AES digital cable and I decided to have a Wireworld Gold Starlight AES digital cable 6 and unfortunately it was out of stock and needed to wait one more week. When I received AES digital cable(it was a series 7, the latest version which I am so excited), the problem was solved. This is one of most important experience. I do think every HiFi lover should have a lot of experience of struggling in their problem and finally solved.
The quality of the sound while I have been auditioning is improving in my audio system. I observe AA Drive 1 had not been fully expressed its power before I got this DAC. The deep of sound stage is improving a lot when I played the Choral part of Beethoven Symphony No.9, the other excellent improvement is the weak tones when I played the Carmen Fantasy from The All Star Percussion Ensemble since the sound volume of high and low this record is extreme. The quiet background makes all the sound tone warm and clean.
