DSD128 vs DSD64x 和 DXD 352.8 JPlay 5.1 playback test !!

Hi chings,

Jplay v5.1 just release yesterday,  the sound is better than 5.0b ,  Must try!  

Just compare the sonic different playback mode (except UltraExtreme) ,  Xtream 是一個新的mode,  其實在5.0時已有.  只是試了一次.  聲音不合口味.  沒有再試.  

先使用Tutti Orchestral Sampler,  track 1 試(16bit/44.1KHz):
-Xtream mode: 的聲音非常非常的Dark,分析很高.  你可以通過  感受到到Orchestra座位斜率.  聲音還是比較tight.  試了不同的Packet Size 和 buffer size 都有這種感覺  ..,  清而緊.  分析力很好.  

-Beach Mode:  聽同一首.  動態仍然好.  聲比較厚, 皇氣足好多.  Darkness 沒有Xtream 的黑.   但也沒有緊的感覺  .  最後還是喜歡Beach filter 的聲音和皇氣。　　

DSDplayback ，　其實之前試 DSD2.8 , DSD5.6 時已上出分享，只是沒時間。　　

Opus DSD128X

Music: Opus 3 Showcase , 2.8M and 5.6M version,   錄音非常好！！！
－買了 DSD2.8 version,  DSD5.6 version 作一次比較。　　
Track 1   DSD2.8: 已非常好.  好厚聲.  動態比我一向作為testing disc的MANGER要多少30% (不是in term 和dB, 不是大3dB x 0.3=1.2dB的意思), 只是動態更大, 更厚.  Sax 的感覺很好.

Track 1 DSD5.6 version: 支Sax 是一種Full density 的表現.  Density 是我聽過CD 和 CAS 中的最高, 神級!   可以和LP比!  有一種可以看見件instrument 的感覺.    動態更強!!!  非常分明!

跟住馬上再試一試DSD5.6與24bit/384 的分別:

找來2L 的 38 track 1 來試.  因為有齊 DSD5.6M(128x version) 和 24/352.8(DXD) 版本 (Best DSD vs best PCM in term of specification),   用 Jplay v5.1 (Beach filter) 播放.  


-DSD5.6M 版本:  動態非常好.  落弓的Micro dynamic 非常好.  聲厚暖.
-DXD24/384 版本: 分析力更高.  落弓非常 Sharp...  皇氣是足的.  沒有Digital 味.  但沒有DSD5.6M版本的厚和感.  分析力和Transient response 高D.

Another die hard friend of JPlay. v5.1 improves much. I prefer the river sound that is more natural. Mini mode sounds best.

Was the original recording a DXD recording or DSD128 recording?

Or was that simultaneous recording for both formats?

For the OPUS ,  it was a analog recording.  

For 2L Norway,  their first version should be 24/352.

Thanks for sharing, Ben.
May I know how did you rip regular CD and how does Jplay compare with MSB Data Transport play red book CD with signature DAC.
I have been using and comparing both JRiver Media play on Windows 7 and Macbook Air with iTunes. In play files being ripped from red book CD, I still vote for playing CD with my Accuphase DP-77 as transport + Aeries DAC. Not too sure what went wrong, I just cannot listen to these files for more than 1.5 hours as I have to rest a bit. May be as you said the sound is tight or even uptight and not organic, allow me to compare this with LP. FYI, I use DB Poweramp to rip CD but my setting may not be perfect either.

Hi Fredtam hing,

I do AudioCD ripping with my dbPowerAmp software,  the dbPoweramp was calibrated with my DVD-ROM offset value,  and I setup the QC procedure for ripping with dbPowerAmp,  

it rip each frame of the AudioCD at least twice and compare ,  if the ripped data is NOT identical with the previous one.  retry,  and try until 2-3 subsequent ripped frame are identical ,  then that frame is trusted as correct data.  

The proceudure is the same as MSB DATA IV transport,  the memory RAM Player,  same read until die procedure,  read each bit and compare and compare until 2 subsequent bits are identical.  

I believe the dbPoweramp is one of the best ripping software ,  there is much more detail than Itunes ripped wave file.  I tried and compared.  每一個note d 尾聲多d harmonic.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I will look into the set up of my DB Poweramp then but will have to find time to do so as I have been devoting a lot of time to do audition on my newly acquired Audio Research Ref 5 SE + Ref 150. It's quite impressive so far and I just keep listening to my favorite album one after the other.
Will share with you more on this.

Yes, I have tested my CAS with my MSB DATA IV transport, 大家都是Memory (RAM ) player.  different style.

-my cas darkness win over my transport,  dark D,  D violin 再sharp D.  但比較緊. 小了一份皇氣.

-my transport (with my own LPS),  darkness 要輸.  但皇氣多D.  鬆D.  more sweetness.  但background darkness is NOT as good as my latest cas.  

for audioCD playback ,  I still prefer MSB,  for DSD/DXD playback ,  need to use CAS for sure.

只係播放有D煩... 唔係電腦人都幾難攪
如果有播放機直讀DSD WAV FLAC FILES , 再加埋用IPAD 選歌咁就完美了

Hi ilccmcf hing,

iTunes cannot support dff or dsf so far.  
we need to use Foobar or JPlayMini directly or JRiver.

if you prefer to use iPAD , try JRiver,  MC17 version support DSD playback already.  you can use JRiver as UI and call JPlay for playback.  JRiver got iPAD app called JRemote for album selection also ,  

meet all your need, play DSD file (dsf/dff files) with iPAD.
