There are 2 new DAC2 being announced.

1/ DAC2 upgraded with DoP DSD64 and DSD128 and 32bit 384kHz PCM support.
2/ DAC2 Special Edition with all the above + significant enhancement in sonic performance.

I received the DAC2 Special Edition announcement first and therefore update our web site first.

It is not a easy task to bring the awarding winning DAC2 to the next level. Wyred4Sound refined DAC-2 incorporates many upgrades throughout the digital, analog and power supply circuits. In addition to the enhanced sonic performance, we have extended its USB support to include, driverless (Mac / Linux), 32 bit 384kHz PCM, as well as DSD streaming.




Async USB Supports 32-bit 384kHz PCM + DSD64/DSD128

Newly implemented technology and hardware now takes full advantage of this remarkable feature. Either DSD64 or DSD128 files can be flawlessly streamed in conjunction with standard PCM files. Galvanic Isolated USB-I2S Interface

DAC2 Special Edition implemented the galvanic isolated USB-I2S interface which guarantees zero opportunity for computer noise to interfere with the quality of the audio signal.

Setup with your source via USB is simple because the DAC-2se is driverless for Linux, Mac OSX 10.6-10.8, and supports Integer mode protocol. Windows XP and newer will require a quick driver install to begin streaming your favorite tracks. You can now be confident that the ultimate USB streaming solution is built into your DAC which ensures a clean and simple setup!

Redesigned Power Supply with Premium Components Including 100x Quieter & Faster Discrete Regulator

Wyred4Sound have upgraded key components throughout the entire audio circuit starting with the main fuse at the power inlet. The Furutech rhodium plated, ceramic fuse has proven to be an excellent complement to the upgraded power supply of the DAC-2se. Further filtering is addressed with low loss - ultra fast recovery Shottkey diodes and a series of premium grade inductors that assist to stabilize the current as it enters the power supply. Power is then filtered through a series of custom low ESR capacitors after which it is regulated by newly designed discrete regulators. Off the shelf regulators are NOT going to meet our expectation. To bring DAC2 to the next level, Wyred4sound designed its own proprietary regulator which is 100+ times quieter and faster than the stock regulator!



Discrete Opamp & Optimized Circuit with Premium Components

The start of the analog signal receives strategic treatment with our custom made naked Vishay Z-Foil resistors in 20 locations. Putting numbers on it, the stock Dale resistors offer 1% tolerance and +/-100ppm/°C temperature coefficient where our new resistors are 0.1% and +/-0.5ppm/°C respectively. As you can imagine, considerable aural gains are noticed with the substantial improvement over the stock resistors.

I think you mean ASIO 2.2 vs DoP.  It is using DoP.

It is driverless for Linux and MacOS which support USB Audio 2.0.
And you can use DoP supported player with W4S DAC2se.  e.g. Linux with mpd.

I'm waiting for the DAC2 DSD version announcement to give you the definite answer. As W4S DAC2se is released first, I just cannot wait to let ching know.

I have updated my web site with pricing info for W4S DAC2se.  The price of the new DAC2 will only be a little bit higher than the original DAC2.  I'm waiting for the official announcement before I publish in my site.  It probably come up tonight.

the DAC2 SE is very competitive because there is not much choice at this price level that is dsd & PCM 32/384 compatible.

Yes.  It is more than DSD64, DSD128, 32/384 PCM support.  This built-in USB/I2S interface is GALVANIC ISOLATED.  And with MacOS, it support "INTEGER MODE" which Mac-audiophiles would fall in love with it.

DACse is unique with DISCRETE REGULATOR + DISCRETE OPAMP + audiophile components.

DACse upgrade the already oversized power supply with custom-built discrete regulator and premium components (ultra fast recovery Shottkey diodes, audiophile grade inductor, low ESR oversized capacitor etc).  It's analog path and discrete opamp are carefully analyzed and upgraded with VISHAY Z-FOIL RESISTORS at all critical locations.
