I can’t see why you can come to such conclusion by using cheap switching power supply can give you hi-end quality. Technically speaking, I can foresee the following challenge which never a low cost solution can address:
EMI – Since the switching power supply using high-frequency to operate, it will generate high power EM Interference to any electronic component around. Yes, the switching frequency is not auditable but after such immunity goes to all passive and active devices within your hifi system, you can’t predict their natural and transient response….
Same as that you switch on your hair dryer and you hear some noise from HiFi system. It is because the high frequency spark generate by the hair dryer motor commutator and this EMI send (pollute) through power source or via air as radio wave…
Aging of components – Performance of Switching power supply relies on the capacitor/Inductor. If those capacitor suffer from aging, the performance will drop quickly! Yes, you will get a very good result at right begin but after 1 or 2 years of operation with heat around, I don’t think it will work…
Harmonics – A lot of harmonics will generate back against to power source due to its high switching frequency. Since this harmonics is not generated by the sources but the load, those harmonics will flow throw natural in three phase network and create rise of natural potential. In theory (especially in HK), natural point shall be 0V as it will be grounded at 3 phase transformer natural side.
Some Ching found they don’t have 220V at home, this may be one of the reason.
If you HiFi system’s voltage is affected by such issues, do you think it can be so call “Hi End”???
