Just a simple cost estimation as below:
Assume all driver units come from scanspeak top of line series and each cost around HKD2K/pcs. 6 pcs = HKD12K
Crossover networks = 20K (assume 10k per one side using very expensive crossover components - silver film caps, air coil and non-inductive resistors)
Then the rest of the cost 300K - 32K = 268K that will be for the cabinet cost + amortization of design/development cost + commercial cost + mark up profit.
Whether the price is reasonable will depend on how "good" is the sound.
However, Hi-Fi fans sometimes may not really care what the actual technology is being used in a particular Hi-Fi equipment for generating the good sound. The first impression/judgement usually comes from the selling price, which brand, where is the country of origin, then will just regard it as something like a "Black box". If that "Black box" can produce the sound (match to one's cup of tea). Then can make a very quick "decision".
Price for Hi-Fi equipment cannot be set too low (will give feeling of not Hi-end enough) especially for involving something "innovative". Just my 2 cents. |
