Cheap stuff, 2nd hand one bay synology old model nas only.

Here comes the problems (as expected) for a nas rookie:-

1) Logitech media server (lms) in nas cannot "recognised" my player in pc.



2) Android phone Squeezebox controller can only detect my Logitech SBT, not the nas. Need another

3) copying exisiting wav files stored in an usb hdd docking to the pc (connected to a 100mb switch<---the bottleneck?)at only 4.5MB/S.



What I intend is store wav files in nas - music folder, use  suitable Android phone app to choose wav song in nas to feed to logitech sbt and then usb out to ddc then coaxial to asus dac....Thx.

Getting confused and not sure if I am asking the right question....

Up to now the the Logitech sbt can access to the wav files in the nas, but the android logitech squeezebox controller cannot(my preferred way-sitting at the couch to select song).

Both use lan cables  to connect to a switch(to a router in turn).

I thought I did not . In fact a little confused, both in concept and in practice, as you might imagine my attempts to connect which involved messing here and there around.  I ended up uninstalling the old squeezebox controller and reinstalling it again and it worked last night.  Just as I tried to connect it again tonight it failed again.  But as I boot up the nas it could connect again. So is it the lms in the nas that my android phone is now connecting, and that the sbt lms is no longer available/relevant (as i now see the wav files from my nas, before using the nas, I connected an usb hdd to the sbt, and since I use a ddc which occupied the usb port of the sbt, I bought the nas...)?

Mine is a one bay only nas, hence only one fan.  Still have tiny fan whirling sound if you come close to hear it, but much lesser/less annoying than those from my pc at the same distance (that's why I do not use pc and use the sbt instead for music). But some chings put their nas as far away as possible (more sound from a two bay nas?).

I have a 2-bay Netgear NAS and I really can't place it next to hifi. Thinking about getting a new one.

SBT is fun isn't it? If you are not already using iPeng, get it, so much better than Logitech own free app.

Thx for info.  Is ipeng a iphone app?

I use android phone and prefer it to iphone, just my personal preference.

BTW, what dac (or other relevant gears) you use with your netgear nas?
