ching it is NOT 多餘 at all, it is what every serious projector user wants, at least that's what I think.
If you could only have ONE screen for both 16:9 and 2.35:1, the only option is to have some kind of a masking system on a 16:9 screen, and that also depends on whether you have fixed screen or electric screen. Most of us use electric or pull down screen, masking would be quite difficult to do if you did not purchase an electric screen with masking built in to begin with, such as Stewart. However, if your projector can lens shift, then you could consider manual masking the top part (top black part of a 2.35:1 image on a 16:9 screen that is), and just shift the lens to the bottom edge for a 2.35:1 effect. However, extreme lens offset is sometimes not recommended because of optical quality.
For fixed screen, there are more making options available off the shelf, and also quite a few wonderful DIY projects on av forums.
If you can have 2 screens that there is no problem la. However, there is at least one dual screen system out there from Elite screen (Taiwan) call the Peregrine Twin, it is 2 screens under 1 housing, fantastic idea, just wonder why there aren’t more people making them.
A properly masked 2.35:1 image is truly immersive and worth to spend some time to consider.
The alternative would be to buy one single 2.35:1 screen but then your 16:9 movies would be quite out of place and small in comparison.
Hope it gives you some idea.
