CHing, the depth of Living Room = 8ft seems not suitable for floorstand speaker  If I were you, I will choose a quality bookshelf speaker (w/ Max. 5" cone) within your budget

same opinion here.  no exceeding 200 square fleet, no more floor stand.

Also....listen with tiny sound only; any speakers fit on it.

唔夠九呎要座地真係有啲難度，可能搵書架更好，真係要搵座地就要搵可以好靠牆嘅喇叭，另外房間處理amp缐材等等都要好好協調

Please be remember reserve some space for toe in, if you go for floor stand, no more space for other equipment like preamp power amp and player.....

Not a bad idea and will be look like this:


A few points to note:
1. Use a set of very very very heavy curtain to help absorbing the rear reflection.
2. Since there is an open end at your throne, imaging would be nice & clear.

For speaker, I like Proac personally and so would suggest Proac D28/D30 as it is down-firing bass reflex and to a certain extent, not require that much space at the rear to "breathe".

The problem is, where should you put the TV

打直個廳玩, 喇叭就用喇叭仔, HIFI架果邊放一隻喇叭, SOFA果邊放一隻喇叭.

喇叭線可以玩D平平地既專業SC. 好似GOTHAM, SOMMER等等.

小弟情況差不多，現使用老麥前後加PMC twenty23，暫時都OK，不過還在煲煉中。

以前用ProAc D18 boom 到七彩，所以都換咗！

but a so-called bookshelf also requires a proper stand, so what's the difference?  unless you really place your speaker on the bookshelf
