QNap 個 interface 太強大, Synology 出的話我會諗下

QNap 多年前出過1 bay無風扇的 (只有 hard disk 摩打聲), 我用過, 但好熱下. 當年要用5400RPM的才OK. 7200RPM 的會好熱.

good point I would wonder about heat issues, no free lunch in this world.

my company bought a bunch of Synology DS214+ recently, I can tell you I couldn't hear any sound from it until I put my ear 6 inches next to the fan, so fanless might not be the only solution.

Oh of course that's my ear only, you might be able to hear it 12 feet away

I was looking at the QNAP before but seems no one recommend it and it needs some approved HD.  Finally, I go for the the Synology 214 and I sit around 10 feet away from it, didn't hear any special noise even when I am listening at low volume.

I am using 2 normal WD 2T HDD but some C hing recommend to use NAS grade HDD.

more bay, more heat, more fan cooling, more spinning noise, that's understandable.

We use WD WD20EFRX 2TB drives, the Red NAS series.  the air coming out from the back of the NAS is essentially room temperature under normal loading. 5400RPM drives are plenty enough for multimedia purposes provided connection between your NAS and media player doesn't go through switches and things that cut speed down drastically.
