Did you compare the same Tidal files - downloaded Tidal files stored in the S10 data disk vs strea ...
I am not sure if Tidal streaming will actually be first copied onto the S10's RAM. However, I know that you cannot store the Tidal songs on the S10 hard disk. I always thought that the only option for listening to Tidal on S10, or other Aurender units, is direct streaming. But I could be wrong here...
In terms of trying out other streamers, I have listened to quite a few in the past, including Lumin, Sforzato, Auralic and other Aurenders. The best I have used, apart from the S10 I am currently using now, is the Amare Musica Diamond Music Server. It is comparable to my S10 and I'm still keeping it in my office.
I have fallen in love with the Aurender Conductor app and I prefer using it over Lumin, mConnect, etc. which I have tried over the years. I have to declare though, that I had never tried Roon. I think I prefer to stick to the Aurender brand as it is simple to use and the system requires least processing power. That is one of the reasons why S10's performance is on par with N20, and is probably one of the best valued streamers available, IMHO. I have discussed with Aurender US's technical staff extensively and also Vigor Audio HK in terms of upgrading to a later model, and the conclusion is that unless I go up to W20SE or N30 there wouldn't be distinguishable difference in sound quality. I have also tested the N20, unfortunately in a different setting and not in my home, and what I heard was far inferior to what my own system is currently offering me.
So the short answer is no, I have no desire to upgrade, at least at this moment, as I am rather happy with the overall performance of my old S10 combined with my Nagra DAC. |
