I owned a Rega RP6 and currently a Clearaudio Concept. Have to say, the simpler the TT, the harder to make it right as there is basically nothing to tune.
Comparing between the 2, I like the sound of the Rega much more but basically the aftersales service is awful.
The sound from the Concept is not as well but with a better service.
All in all, I am also seriously considering give up.
Same as your background, my father bought a 3 in 1 set of Aiwa HiFi after visiting the very first HiFi Show held in City Hall Central in the late 70s. U could consider buying Rega's RP8 set including its flagship Apheta MC cartridge. Simply plug and play and no maintenance required for many years.

Rega turntable with Ortofon MM cartridge (such as a 2M red, blue or black) should be a very good cho ...
The Rega RP8 seems very interesting but with my last experience of RP6, the phono cartridge connector are very fragile and there seems the RP8 doesnt improve much. Any advice?
And for 4000 USD (HKD 30k) with a MC cartridge, what other choice are out there?
