Anybody using a 2.1 speaker configuration?

I mentioned WB Torus b'cos it's the only system close to 2.1 that I was aware of.  But I do not have actual experience in it. Until you shared your experience, I had no idea how hard to make it perform. 但我一向知道2.1難搞得好！

可是，对声效要求唔系咁高的朋友，買一套Hk$10k的5.1 all in one AV/blu-ray system 已經聽得幾開心。

  Here's a good sample to setup 2.x system
1)Check the speaker response in the room by running calibration thru Pre-pro,AVR or DRC products.
   Floorstands usually run deeper than center channel which is a book shelf like speaker most of them.
   Now you have a picture how low FQ performs in your mains.  
2)Set the X.over to compensate the rolling down LF  from mains
   50+ Hz, in this case looks about right, but that's for theory
   You may start from here and fine tune the X.over to best fit your hearing preference.
   Bass lovers might want more overlap from SW for example.
3)As shown in the chart,
   Room mode is obviously the No.1 killer for LF quality given a good system we already have.

Thanks for sharing.  In your sample case, there could be problem with room mode at 70Hz.  Adding sub with low pass set to be lower than 70Hz would not make the situation worse.

However, given that the room mode will be different case by case.  So it would be difficult without measurement tool to assist.

也來襯襯熱鬧分享一下以往玩2.1經驗及其後放棄原因。

加sub作音樂用途，在下認為完全可行及有實際質素提升。但要註意幾點：
一、如主喇叭低音單元在10"或以下，在下認為加sub一定要用high pass crossover並且分頻點設在80hz-100hz, 主喇叭因不再重播超低段可令中音大幅改善intermodulation distortion 。結果中音分析力，分隔度會進步不少。聽大爆棚symphony 尤其明顯。加sub能改善中音綱上好少人提及。

二、用high pass crossover 另一好處係主喇叭同sub重複頻段減少，處理好分頻點相位，就唔會低音混亂有團團或拖着長尾巴感。

三、加sub唔好嘅地方係，如果得一隻sub, 擺位上幾乎一定要放兩喇叭中間位置，咁先可以左右平衡，但咁放會收窄音場闊度。

四、加兩隻sub就解決以上問題。但加兩隻高質素sub，又令到整體價錢提升，咁就要考慮何不換對大型啲嘅三路喇叭好過加兩隻sub？

呢個亦係我放棄玩sub嘅原因。
